The three-row Ford Explorer covers a variety of driving needs thanks to its versatile, power, and spacious nature. The latest model year of the Ford Explorer makes a handful of essential updates that keep things fresh but reliable, ensuring a modernly versatile SUV that's well-suited to everything from daily commuting to off-road adventuring. The new Ford Explorer gains a new trim, tweaks existing trims, and makes a few adjustments to standard and optional features. What hasn't changed is the uncompromisingly bold and reliable capability that the Ford Explorer brings to Falls Church area drivers.
Probably the most notable update that comes to the 2022 Explorer is the new ST-Line trim. The ST-Line trim is a sporty, athletic model option that puts capability and style at the forefront. The ST-Line trim fits in as a sporty model that comes with the base engine option and a host of unique exterior and interior feature options. The ST-Line includes a black grille, tinted headlights/taillights, black interior trim, faux-leather upholstery with microfiber inserts, a navigation system with voice control, wireless smartphone charging capability, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium audio system, and a host of driver assistance features. Driver assistance features include lane keeping assist, surround-view monitor, adaptive cruise control, and evasive steering assist.
The base engine that comes standard with the new Ford Explorer is a 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-4 that provides 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. This base engine works with a 10-speed automatic transmission and features a choice between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. This engine can be had with the Base, XLT, ST-Line, Timberline, and Limited trims. The second engine that's available with the Ford Explorer is a 3.3-liter V6 hybrid that makes 318 horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque. This engine is also available in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and works with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid engine is available with Limited and Platinum trims. If more power is needed, then the 2022 Explorer offers up a bold 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that manages 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. As with the other engines, the twin-turbocharged option works with a 10-speed automatic transmission and offers up rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. If you're interested in adding in some off-road performance capability or you're looking for an athletic version of the Explorer, then some trim levels can help. The Timberline trim is an off-road-ready version of the Explorer that comes with a host of nifty off-road features. The Timberline makes all-wheel drive standard while also adding in a specialized suspension with increased ride height, all-terrain tires, limited-slip differential, and underbody skid plates. The ST trim takes a sporty stance, coming equipped with a sport suspension, paddle shifters, and a turbocharged 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine.
With seven trim levels, the Ford Explorer ensures plenty of comfort and convenience features for drivers to consider. While other brands provide a rather weak set of standard interior features, the Ford Explorer comes standard with a seriously impressive set of standard interior features. The Base trim of the Explorer comes standard with tri-zone automatic climate control, a power adjustable driver's seat, 50/50 split folding third-row seats, and split folding second-row seats. The XLT trim makes some solid upgrades, adding in a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, and second-row captain's chairs. The ST-Line includes a unique interior design scheme that features black interior trim and simulated leather upholstery with microfiber inserts. The Timberline trim is a farcry cry from just an off-road vehicle. The Timberline trim also comes outfitted with simulated leather upholstery. The Limited trim puts interior comfort and convenience firmly at the forefront by making a long list of interior features standard. The Limited trim includes interior ambient lighting, leather-trimmed seats, a heated steering wheel, heated/ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, and power-folding second-row seats. The ST trim manages sport front seats to match its sleek sporty exterior design. The King Ranch covers all the bases and then some by adding in a variety of high-quality materials and features. The King Ranch comes equipped with wood interior trim, unique leather upholstery, upgraded front seats with massage functionality, and a digital gauge cluster display. The top-level Platinum trim comes with the nicest set of seating materials, which includes extended leather upholstery.
